# Bank connections and sync

> Connect with Plaid or bring your own supported financial data.

Bank connections bring balances and transactions into Set Aside Money. The connection and the individual bank accounts it contains are different levels.

## Choose your data connection

| Option | What it means |
| - | - |
| Plaid included | Your plan includes a Plaid connection allowance. |
| Bring your own financial data | Supply a supported connection such as SimpleFIN. Plaid access is not included in that bundle. |

## Review connected accounts

Use connection settings to manage provider-level access. Review which individual accounts are included in your budget.

Disconnecting a provider and choosing which accounts to include are different actions. Check the selected accounts before expecting transactions to appear.

## Check freshness

Review sync status when activity seems missing. The time Set Aside Money pulled data is not necessarily the time the bank refreshed it.

Automatic sync runs on a schedule. Bring-your-own data refreshes automatically every six hours. Repeated manual refreshes can run into provider quotas.

## When a connection needs attention

Open its settings and follow the provider's reconnection flow. Refresh afterward and check balances and transaction history.
